Glueing for the Future

I have been asked to help glue two separate programs together. The first program generates four different Excel files. The second program needs multiple XML files.

It is such a complex mess and I am not sure what the best way to tackle it is.

Part of me wants to write a python script (or similar). I suspect that it would be easier for myself to write and to document for myself. However I suspect that it would make it much harder for others to run and maintain.

As a result I think I am going to have to write the interface as an excel workbook and macro. It feels ugly and wrong but it is the only thing that I can be sure my users will have access to.
