I have stated this before, but I am a slow reader. Couple that with commitments and life in general, reducing the amount of spare time I have, it takes me a while to get through a book.
I had borrowed a book from the library that was due to be returned on Friday. In practical terms, today was going to be the best day to make a trip to the library. Friday will be busy, and today I had to find things to keep the kids entertained. A walk to the library is a good way to spend a few hours. So this morning, we suited up and headed out.
The only problem was that I hadn't actually finished the book I had borrowed. I was so close to finishing it, it was very frustrating. Sure I could have renewed it, but I had already renewed it once and I didn’t want to have to remember about it again. As I said, I was very close to finishing it.
I have taken every opportunity that I have gotten this week to cram in a few extra pages. I stayed up a little later than normal last night, but found I was too tired to actually process what I was reading. Luckily, the kids decided to play nicely for half an hour this morning after breakfast.
I took my chance. I sat myself down and tried to get through the last chapter. The kids spotted something must be up. They then took it in turns to try and either use me as a trampoline or to ‘help’ me by turning the pages for me. Whether they needed turned or not.
In the end I won. The kids enjoyed the trip to the library and I successfully finished reading the book before it was returned. Who thought that a trip to the library could involve such effort.
