I think I have paid my tax for last year. This is the first time I have actually filled in a tax return for myself, in the past I have always just relied on the PAYE calculations.

Despite the website saying "you do not owe anything", I was still uncertain until I had actually reviewed the full calculation. I know that they were probably trying to be helpful and keeping it simple. Show only what you need to know, some friendly text summarising everything.

But the engineer in me wasn't convinced. I needed to see the full calculation before I felt reassured. I wanted to see all of the steps and ensure that nothing was forgotten. Once I found the calculation page I was able to satisfy myself that all was correct.

Next we have to get our heads around the us tax returns. A far more complex system without the friendly website to guide you.
